ALUMNI BROTHERS

John Lim
F'17 Tau Class - Graduated Fall 2020

Past Positions:
F'17 Pledge Class President, F'18 Membership Vice President, S'19 Phi Fam Head, F'19 Pledge Trainer, F'20 Sergeant-at-Arms

Post-Grad Activities:
I’m currently working at Aztec Recreation as a Member Services Program Assistant, overseeing the evening operations and supervising our student staff. I’m also studying for certifications in data analytics, which is the direction I would like to take my career for at least the next 3-5 years. I really like to explore San Diego and try new restaurants, coffee shops, and local businesses. Though I’ve been living here for more than a decade, there’s always so much to discover and enjoy!

Alpha Phi Omega's Impact:

Alpha Phi Omega has, without a doubt, built up my confidence and professional capabilities. I would not be this ambitious or determined for my career if not for the progress I earned as an active and the challenges I faced leading, collaborating, and at times, clashing with other brothers. Alpha Phi Omega never ceases to remind me of the support system it has for me. I’ve turned to many Brothers, both in and out of my pledge class for support and reassurance, and they’ve always had my back and that’s something I’m eternally grateful for.

Most memorable experience in APO?
One of the many memorable experiences I had was as a Pledge Trainer for the Fall 2019 Allen Wong Psi Pledge Class! I got to partner with one of my pledge Brothers, Rhys Almario, to organize a program that would guide and nurture our pledges to becoming Brothers. Getting the honor to lead our chapter’s pledge program and getting to know each and every one of the pledges and helping them along in their Alpha Phi Omega journey is something I will always cherish. It had its fair share of difficulties and obstacles, but I wouldn’t change the way that semester went for anything.

Genel Ronquillo
F'14 Nu Class - Graduated Spring 2017

Past Positions:

F15 Leadership Vice President, 2016-2017 Chapter President

Active Membership Accomplishments:
I served as the first official Leadership Vice President of Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Delta Chapter. I also served as the only voting delegate for APO's National Convention in 2016.

Post-Grad Activities:
I currently serve as the Administrative Assistant at San Diego State University Research Foundation (SDSURF)'s Academy for Professional Excellence. I also created a podcast, Genuinely Genel. In my free time, you can find me enjoying the scenic views of San Diego, fishing, traveling, reading, going on foodie adventures, writing in my journal, and creating blog posts.

Alpha Phi Omega's Impact:
My experience in Alpha Phi Omega has helped reaffirm that one of my purposes in life is to be a servant leader and inspired me to pursue a career within the nonprofit industry. Also, on a more personal level, Alpha Phi Omega has provided me with long-lasting friendships and an encouraging, positive community.

Past Positions: N/A

Post-Grad Activities:
Moved to Seattle, Washington to work full-time at Seattle University

Alpha Phi Omega's Impact:
My journey in APhiO reminds me to strive and seek for the intersections of education with leadership, fellowship, and service; to create opportunities to weave these pillars, and people, together in my work.

Advice:
Try new things - that's how we learn. Get comfortable being uncomfortable - that's how we grow. Lift as you climb and give back to communities - that's how we all succeed.
